France has agreed to begin stopping migrant vessels in the Channel, after an extended period of insistence from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the President asking him to support the initiative and stating there presently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French maritime police will be allowed to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their passengers, according to authoritative statements.

French police have infrequently acted to stop the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered excessively high a risk to both officers and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these tactics this period... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel."

Now, a French naval police representative says personnel will begin taking action at sea, with the aim of protecting human life.

Significantly, the official excluded the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had earlier been reported as a possible technique to snarl the engines of the boats.

The decision to take action at all is a major step forward, following a short-lived change towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which dropped off when the previous government official departed from office.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and French president, when authorities were observed walking into the sea to slash the hulls of a vessel.

Now French officials will again be allowed to stop boats prior to they pick up migrant individuals from the coastal areas of France's north coast, however it's not clear how the small boats will be prevented.

Strong winds are currently delaying the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be looking for methods to adjust to evade interception, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

UK immigration authorities and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for comment.
